The Columbia Chronicle
Creative Director, Senior Graphic Designer & Graphic Designer
I started at The Columbia Chronicle as a Graphic Designer, progressed to Senior Graphic Designer, and ultimately became Creative Director, leading a 30‑plus student staff. In that role, I set the paper’s visual direction, built adaptable page templates, and reduced production time by 40% through streamlined workflows and hands‑on training. Close collaboration with editors, photographers, and the advertising team ensured every issue delivered clear, engaging storytelling that resonated with our student audience.
Front Covers
Because the front cover captures readers’ attention first, I relied on decisive typography, clear hierarchy, and bold visuals to draw them in. Fast turnarounds demanded tight coordination with section editors, enabling me to translate late‑breaking stories into fresh, on‑brand layouts.
Features
Long‑form features offered space to experiment with illustration, infographics, and photo‑driven storytelling. Partnering with writers and photographers, I crafted visual narratives that deepened the reporting so complex topics remained both accessible and memorable.
